I received an NHS standard letter advising that I needed to attend for my smear test. I called Wilmslow Health Centre to request an appointment with the nurse, and was told they couldn't fit me in for three weeks. The receptionist was fairly abrupt about it. On the day of the appointment I arrived on time - the practice opens at 8am and my appointment was also at 8am. The nurse was already there but I was seen almost 20 minutes late, for some reason. To cut a long story short, this was the worst smear test experience that I've ever had. The nurse was chatting to another nurse who was also in the room (not sure why) the entire time, paying little attention. The smear itself was extremely, eye-wateringly painful and the nurse seemed to be at a loss to where my cervix was. I experienced painful cramps for the rest of the day but no bleeding (I always bleed a little post-smear), which struck me as odd. I commented to my husband when he drove me home that I had a feeling that the nurse hadn't done the test properly. Lo and behold, this morning I received an NHS letter stating that the lab wasn't able to report the result (there weren't enough cells to examine) and that I have to have another test in three months' time. This has never happened to me before. Obviously I am very loathe to go back.

You can easily get through to the automated system or reception to make an appointment, however it is about 2-3 weeks until you can get one unless you call each day for a cancellation. I have just had a baby and was told by the health visitor I would receive an appointment or an alert to make one for the 6 week check and 8 week immunisations. By 8 weeks I had heard nothing and it took a weeks worth of 5 phone calls and voicemails to the specific person to eventually get my sons appointment at 9 weeks. I have also had 2 mix ups with appointments times which meant I missed his immunisations, I waited an hour to be squeezed in and in the end left after I heard nothing. He is now booked in to have his 8 week imms at nearly 12 weeks old as there are no sooner appts. On a side note, not that it's too important, they have only got my sons name correct once in about the 6 visits we have had! I feel bad complaining because I love the NHS I just think The problem here are not poor practitioners or staff there are just too many people on the books causing a strain on staff and a knock on effect on your actual appointment so for this reason I am considering moving.

I had to see a dr in hospital who said I must see my GP the next day to organise blood tests and scans because I was in a lot of pain. He said he would email my GP so he would know what to organise. Firstly I couldn't even get through to the practice to speak to anyone - it was going through to a weird answer machine - my husband tried too! Eventually at 8.25am I decided to drive there. I explained my situation to the receptionist who looked like she couldn't have cared less and she told me she had no appointments and tried to dismiss me! I reiterated that I had been in hospital the night before and needed to see a dr. She then angrily told me to sit down and she would see if a dr cld fit me in! So I'm in pain sitting in a reception room not even knowing if anyone will see me! No wonder people die in this country when the care and help they urgently require is delayed all the time. Where is any sense of urgency and caring attitudes? This system needs to be changed. Please if the partners of this practice read this please sort out your reception staff - they require urgent training in dealing in an empathetic way with patients.

The receptionists really put me off going to the doctors as I dread ringing to make an appointment. You get nothing but rudeness and they tut down the phone. You are always made to feel an inconvenience. After I had gave birth my midwife sent a swab off of my cesarean wound and a Dr had called me to tell me I had Mrsa and I had to pick up a prescription. I couldn't walk or drive so my partner picked it up for me but every pharmacy in wilmslow didn't have what I needed and this was a Friday at 4 pm on a bank holiday weekend everyone pharmacy kept saying they couldn't order what I need until Tuesday. This made me upset as I was meant to be bonding with my Child but I was frightened to pick her up because I got told I would pass it on to her. I called the receptionist and asked to speak to the Dr to see if they could get the prescription from the hospital as it was urgent. The receptionist asked me what was wrong and I explained the Dr called me I need to speak to them again and the receptionist was so rude saying she needed to know why so I explained she then said she remembers my partner coming in to get the prescription and described him as a young boy when he is 25! And said the Dr has gone home and I should just wash my hands. This woman had no right in asking me what was wrong or giving out advice. This is sadly one of the occasions where the receptionists have let the surgery down.
